Wuhan is a hub city of water and land communications formed of Hankou, Wuchang and Hanyang. With a population of 3.02 million, it is the capital of Hubei province known for its long history and many historic sites.
  Of great renown  is the Yellow Crane Tower which was originally built on the Yellow Crane Rock on Snake Hill. During the reign of Sun Quan of the Three Kingdoms Period (229--252), the tower was already on the hill. Later an immortal visited the tower riding on a yellow crane, hence the name.

  To give greater fame to the tower was the poem The Yellow Crane Tower written by Tang poet Cui Hao. It says:"the immortal left on a yellow crane, leaving behind the empty Yellow Crane Tower. Gone forever is the yellow crane, only the vast expanse of white clouds is left..." Ancient Lute Terrace, also known as Boya Terrace, sits beside the Moon Lake in northern Hanyang. It used to be the spot where Yu Boya, a musician of the State of Chu, played the lute. During the Revolution of 1911, Huang Xing, a revolutionary leader, set up his headquarters here. It was at Calling on the General Terrace in Viewing Horse Ground in Wuchang that saw Huang Xing was presented with the seal of authorizing him to take command of the Revolution of 1911.

  East Lake features vast water surface and beautiful scenery. Recital Pavilion is on the western bank of the lake, in which stands a statue of the great poet Qu Yuan (c.340 B.C.--c.278 B.C.). Other tourist attractions include Qingchuan Pavilion, Hongshan Hill, National Institute of the Peasant Movement, Temple of Original Purity and so on.
  Major hotels include the Xuangong Hotel, Jianghan Hotel, Shengli Hotel, Qingchuan Hotel, Wuhan Hotel, Shouyi Hotel, etc.

  Blunt-snout bream makes a famous dish to Wuhan. A trip by boat on the Yangtze River from Wuhan will take you to Chongqing, and down the stream you will be at Nanjing or Shanghai. The Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge provides a contacting link between the Beijing--Hankou Railway and the Guangzhou--Hankou Railway. You will see ever-changing scenes if you go on a tour of the Three Gorges on the Yangtze River.
