Qufu, 120 kilometres south of Jinan, is an old
city known both at home and abroad. As early as in the Zhou Dynasty (c.11th century--201
B.C.), it was the capital of the state of Lu. In the Han (206 B.C.--A.D. 220), Luxian
County was set up to replace it; and in the Sui (581--618), it was changed to Qufu County.
Ruins of the former capital city of the state of Lu are still found around Qufu
County. More than 2,000 years ago, Confucius, founder of the Confucian School, was born in
Qufu. There sits the Tomb and Temple of Confucius and other magnificent commemorative
structures built by China's feudal monarchs in history. |
