Luoyang is one of the seven ancient capitals in China.
A city built in 1108 B.C., it had been made the capital of nine dynasties, including the Eastern Zhou (770--221 B.C.), Eastern Han (25--220), state of Wei (220--265), Western Jin (265--316), Northern Wei (386--534), Sui (581--618), Tang (618--907), Later Liang (907--923) and Later Tang (923--936).
To give fame to Luoyang are its many historic sites. Longmen Grottoes contain more than 100,000 stone statues carved after the Northern Wei (386--534).

Tomb of Bai Juyi, a famous Tang poet, is located under Pipa Peak in Xiangshan Hill.
White Horse Temple, constructed in the Eastern Han (A.D. 68), was the first Buddhist monastery established in China. Legend goes that in the Eastern Han (25--220), Cai Yin and others brought back sutras and statues of Buddha on a white horse. Hence the name.
Guan Forest  is the spot where the head of General Guan Yu of the state of Shu (221--263) was buried.

At the Temple to Lord Zhou there is the Dingding Hall which had been used to house the nine tripods from the time of Yu the Great.
The city receives guests with Luoyang Guest House, Friendship Hotel, Flower City Hotel and Luoyang Hotel.
