Kunming, with its perpetual spring-like weather and a warm climate for plants and flowers, is known as the "City of Spring" or the "City of Flowers". Kunming's camellia enjoys the highest reputation in China.
  In the Han Dynasty (206 B.C.--A.D. 220), Kunming was the seat of Guchang and Jianling counties. In the Tang (618--907) and Song (960--1279), it was known as Dongdu. When it came to the Ming Dynasty (1368--1644), Kunming County was established and since the Ming, it has been the capital of Yunnan Province.

  Being a tourist city, Kunming claims worldwide fame. Major scenic attractions include the Dragon Gate in Western Hill, Grand View Tower, Dianchi Lake, Green Lake, Yuantong Hill, Golden Hall, Bamboo Temple, Black Dragon Pool, hot springs in Anning, and Stone Forest in Lunan.
  Five railways link Kunming with other parts of the country. Available are scheduled airliners to Beijing, Chengdu, Guangzhou, Xi'an, Nanning, Guiyang as well as to Rangoon.

  Kunming Hotel, Cuihu Hotel, Jinlong Hotel and Camellia Hotel are among the best with standard service provided in Kunming. Of unique flavour are steamed chicken and rice noodles with hot soup to be tasted in Kunming. In addition to pilose antler, musk, quinite and the bulb of fritillary, yun cigarettes, puer tea, jade carving, rattan work and Dai brocade enjoy brisk markets in China.
