Changchun is the capital of Jilin Province, with a population of 1.51 million. For the Changchun No.1 Automobile Works in the city, it is famed as an "Automobile City". Developed as a city about 180 years ago, Changchun began to have its administrative setup placed under the Changchun Department of the Qing government.
City-wide afforestation had been carried out in Changchun, and this has won it the fame "Spring City in North China".
  Changchun has many tourist attractions.

For its deep and green waters South Lake Park is an ideal place for people to go boating or swimming in summer and a natural skating rink in winter. Jingyuetan is a tranquil, beautiful and refined tourist site for its man-made dense forests, giant pine trees and freshening air.

In addition to Changbai Mountains Nature Reserve, there is the Heavenly Pond of the Changbai Mountain which was originally formed of a volcano crater. At the northern gap of the Heavenly pond is the Waterfall of the Changbai Mountains, tumbling down and overhanging cliff to create a great mist more than ten metres high. Around the pond are a number of scenic spots, such as Heaven Mending Rock, Gold thread Spring and Lesser Heavenly Pond. Ginseng root, sable fur and deer antler are referred to as the "Three Treasures of Jilin Province".

Native products include Codonopsis pilosula, Astragalus membranaceus, edible fungus and mushroom from the Changbai Mountains. Fine habitats are provided by dense forests in the Changbai Mountains for many rare species of animals, such as Northeast China Tiger, leopard, musk deer, black bear, sable and orioles.
On the bank of the Yalu river in Ji'an County, there still exists the remains of ancient city walls of Gaogouli Kingdom. An interesting visit is to the Imperial Palace of bogus Manchukuo. Visitors are welcome to stay at Chunyi Hotel, South Lake Hotel, or Changbaishan Hotel. Railways and air routes connect Changchun with other major cities in China.
