HANGZHOU (November,1997)

The main scenic sites include the West Lake, the Tomb and Temple of Yue Fei, Temple of Soul's Retreat, Tiger-running Spring, Six Harmonies Pagoda and the Great Tides of the Qiantang River.

Temple of Soul's Retreat has about 1600-year history. Six Harmonies Pagoda is the best place to see the Great Tides of the Qiantang River.

The best time to see the Great Tides of Qiantang River is on August 18 of traditional Chinese calendar every year. When the thunderous tides come, such a marvelous spectacle only Amazonas River can compare with it.

Hangzhou is the home of Longjing (Dragon Well) Tea. There is a peculiarity of the Dragon Well. When you use a stick to stir its water, you will find that there is a strange line on the surface which looks like a circle. Then the guide will tell you this is the moustache of the dragon.

SUZHOU (November,1997)

Suzhou claims the fame as "the Venice of the East" in the world. And it is known for its garden construction. The main scenic spots are Tiger Hill, Cool Hill Temple, Lingering Garden, Humble Administrator's Garden, Lion Garden, Happiness Garden...

Cool Hill Temple located in the Fengqiao Village. It is one of the famous temples in China. Cool Hill is known for its bell, the guide will tell you that when you hear the bell, that means to say your worry will be relieved. In Fengqiao Village, you will see a statue of Zhang Ji who was a poet in Tang Dynasty. One of his poem is very famous and it mentions Cool Hill Temple, therefore it causes Cool Hill Temple become much well-known. And when you see this statue, the guide will suggest you to touch this poet's finger. Maybe it will bring you much inspiration in writing.

Lion Garden impressed me. You will see many stones look like lions, therefore it called Lion Garden. But the most interest is when you enter into the forest of these stones, you will find many ways to go out of it. It is like a maze. Qianlong, an emperor of Qing Dynasty, he was interested in Lion Garden. He found it was very funny to enter into the forest of stones, therefore he wrote down "really funny" to describe Lion Garden.

NANJING (November,1997)

Nanjing has a great number of tourist attractions, including the Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum, Ming Tombs, Purple Hills Observatory, Rain and Flower Terrace, Xuanwu Lake, Not-to-Worry Lake and so on. Besides, Nanjing's wall keeps very well.

Going to the Purple Hills Observatory by cable car is the best choice. You can see many ancient astronomical instruments there. Nanjing Changjiang Bridge is the 2nd bridge across the Yangzi River in China. It is the representative building of Nanjing. In the downtown, there is a Fuzi Temple. In fact it isn't a temple, it is similar to Yuyuan Garden of Shanghai.

The Rain and Flower stones come from Nanjing. Every stone is different from each other, the pattern of these stones will give you many imaginations. As unique to Nanjing, many foods are tasty, such as the pressed salted ducks, whitebaits from the Taihu Lake, crabs from the Yangcheng Lake...

WUXI (November,1997)

Major scenic attractions include Wuli Lake, Xiwei Park and Li Garden. Wuli Lake is bigger than West Lake of Hangzhou 1.7 times. It has a beautiful scenery. There is a Huishan Spring in the Xiwei Park. It claims the fame as "the 2nd Best Spring" in China.

Wuxi's clay figurines are the ideal souvenirs for tourists. The representative clay figurine is called "Da A Fu". They are as famous as the clay figurines of Tianjin. The Soy Sauce Spareribs of Wuxi is very delicious.

SHANGHAI (November,1997)

Shanghai is the largest city in China. Major tourist attractions in Shanghai include the Yuyuan Garden, jade Buddha Temple, the Temple of Confucius, Songjiang Square Pagoda and so on.

Nanjing Road is the business street. If you want to taste the local food, then go to Yunnan Road. Liuhe Road is a curiosity street.
